Walks, UnBirthday's and Chocolate cups

I don't mind walking to work, it takes me 8minutes 18seconds. Its actually five hundred and fifty seven steps from my house to my office. I know this cause I timed myself last week and counted my steps this morning.

I don't mind walking to work but the thing is people stare. Yeah I know I'm beautiful and I should be admired but haba look and move your eyes away. Thank you very much. Another thing is I get honked at and offered rides, I don't like the honking bit at all. Then when I'm enjoying my walk, the peace and quiet of the morning and the sight of the beautiful blue sky before me, the nosy neighbours ask me "where is your car?" "what is wrong with your car?" I can't walk again ni?

At work, its the Boss's Un-Birthday so she got everyone in the office Cupcakes!
I got a chocolate one! Lol. Yes I'm excited over it, bite me!

Got to go, its lunch time. I was on a 'self given' break at the beginning of this blog. Lol. Will be blogging again sooner than you think. x

Right Now

Right now, I'm at work. This sister is done with Broadcasting school. Got a new job thanks to Hadi (I love you girl). Yes I know, I'm always doing one thing or the other, well that's the best way to gain experience and figure out what life has in store for me.

Check out my friend Shirley's blog: Another boring article about Love. We got the most exciting news  two weeks ago about Livy little bundle of joy. Then Madame Shirley decided to write a story. After reading it, it was obvious the characters were based on her real life friends. Oh well, I'm Terry in the story.

Oh yeah, I changed the name of my blog to That Ré of Sunshine, I feel this best describes me; Irede- Ire- Ré, you get it? My blog url has changed too its no longer Ire's Thoughts, its now http://thatreofsunshine.blogspot.com/  so change your bookmarks et al.

Got to get back to work. Have a great week everyone. x

Dreams

When I was younger, I used to dream and plan what my future was going to be like. Now I'm older, I'm constantly thinking, planning, altering my plans and worrying.

I used to dream a lot when I was younger of the future, who I wanted to be, what I would have achieved at a certain age and what I wanted from life.

I worry a lot cause my plans always change, but I've learnt to just go with the flow.

Just found something I wrote when I was 16.

"I dream I'm a Queen. I'm a journalist, newscaster and amazingly good at my job. I'm one of the most beautiful people in the world and I've got people wanting to be like me 'cause I've got style like no other.

I dream I'm rich and have all a girl could ask for. Then my phone vibrates under my pillow, I put my hand under it to turn it off . . .  that's when I realize I'm still the same old me I was yesterday; your average sixteen year old.

'Dreams are real, all you have to do is believe'."

A bit vain for a 16 year old you think? Here we are seven years later and to be honest, I'm sort of living my dream.

So the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria MBGN 2011 competition is coming up on the 25th of June. This is the first time I'm paying attention to it. The younger sister has decided she will be competing for MBGN 2012 so she keeps feeding us updates about this current one.

So many beautiful girls in the competition. I know who I'm voting for though.

"My name is Delphine Okobah, I'm 22 years old and I'm representing Ebonyi state (the salt of the nation) in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2011 pageant.
Please vote for me because I have a good head on my shoulders and a beautiful face in front of it. I possess the right mix of intelligence and wit and I know that if I win, I'd excel at my duties."

Let's make someones dreams come true. Vote Delphine as MBGN 2011.

Dare to dream? The price of your future is your DREAM and it costs you nothing. x

The With GAIA Experience

Last Sunday at Mente De Moda, I got a massage. *sigh. It was so relaxing that when I stood up, I felt so drowsy. It felt so good, I had to ask the With Gaia massage therapist/masseuse Gabriel if I could take him home. I mean, it would be nice if whenever I got home from a stressful day, he was there. Oh well, he's opening a training school soon, so i'll be sending the future husband there some day.

With Gaia Limited offers massage therapy to reduce and manage the stress of the Nigerian worker through on-site massage. It also offers the 'corporate chair massage' which doesn't take a lot of time and is received fully clothed with no messy oils, so you can always call them for a quickie ;-).

The benefits of the With Gaia massage are immeasurable including and not limited to; releasing stress and fatigue, releasing body aches and pains, opening the mind and increasing alertness, increasing morale and productivity, lowering blood pressure, improving circulation and enhancing emotional well being.

For more information and to enjoy their mobile massage services, email: info@withgaialtd.com or call 0818772614307054425126.

Letter To My Grandpa

Grandpa dear,
I’ve been in denial about you passing on for the past couple of months. On the 24th of February 2011, Tito told me you had gone to heaven.  The minute I heard, time froze. I couldn’t move, my mouth went dry, I couldn’t speak.  It’s just so hard to believe. I knew one day you would go, but silly me, I thought you would be here forever and ever!

Everyone has their own way of handling grief. Not sure I do. Been waiting for you to call and say “Princess dear, why have I not heard from you since?”

Reality has set in; they're holding a service of songs for you at the Catherdral. It is hard for me to talk about you in past tense. *sigh I miss you.

Now who am I going to talk to about ideas for my book, who is going to proof read my book. Feel bad because I’ve been writing this book for a hundred years. Feel so sad about all the things we never got to do together, like go to the beach or go for a drive in my car.

Feel like I'm dreaming, I can’t believe you are no longer here. Want to drive to papa Ajao so you can ask me what I’m reading now, what I'm writing now and whats on the news.

You taught me so much, how to think, how to write. You have had so much influence on who I am now and who I’m going to be in the next couple of years.

I love you Grandpa!

On the way to your room, there was this poem hanging on the wall and I remember every time after reciting it, I would ask you what it meant and you would say “Princess dear, it’s written in plain English, it’s about a man.”

“That Man Is A Success
Who has lived well,
Laughed often and loved much,

Who has gained the respect of
Intelligent men
 and the love of his children;

Who leaves the world better
Than when he found it,
Whether by an improved poppy,
A perfect poem
Or a rescued soul;

Who never lacked appreciation
Of earth’s beauty
Or failed to express it;

Who looked for the best in others
And gave the best he had.”                        -Anonymous

Today I know what that poem means and I know that man is you!

One things for sure, I know you are here with us in spirit. The other day, Grandma told me, she knew you were with us in spirit. She was taking her time in the bathroom like she always does right before breakfast. Then she heard the door slam a couple of times, there was no way it could have been the wind because the door was shut and no wind except a tornado can open that door. She knew it was a sign from you because whenever she takes her time, you would call out “Grandma dear do you want the tea to go cold?” I believe it was you! ☺

Wish you were here to give me some grandpa medicine to take the pain away like you always did when I was younger whenever I was hurt or sad. I miss you granddad, we all do.

Rest in peace Micheal Omiunu Imana. My Grandfather.

Love,
Princess dear. Xxx

The Journalist

Currently, i'm not working anywhere, I've got my PR company so I guess you can say i'm working for myself and once again i'm in Broadcasting school. Some one asked me the other day why I was so keen on broadcast journalism. Hmmmn. . .

Well, my major reason for building a career in this field is to bring about change. I believe through this profession, I will be able to make a (social) change in our society by expressing my points and views as well the views of other to the people on matters affecting them and the society. Through the media, so many great broadcasters like Funmi Iyanda, Patrick Oke, Frank Olize,Larry King and Oprah Winfery (just to mention a few) have been able to pass across knowledge we never knew of and influence people to the greatest of ways.

As a journalist, it is my duty to pass across information to others. My decision to become a Broadcast Journalist is so that I can play a part in making our society a better place.

Here's a link for my first CNN ireport: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-590787

Will be blogging again sooner than you think. x
